LAST LESSONS #197 — LAST LESSONS — POLITICS

“Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.” Romans 13:1

If there was ever a time when Christians in the USA need to pay attention to the political news it is today. Sadly, most of the old folks who are residents in the assisted living facility where I live do not listen to the news. Understandably some of them cannot hear well, but even those who can hear are not interested. I am also aware that many younger adults do not listen, or watch, the news. It is so sad, because these adults can vote but if they do not pay attention to what the candidates stand for, they can easily be led astray by social media.

We Christians cannot vote for the party that endorses abortions. Abortions mean killing babies in the womb. God’s Word says, “Thou shall not kill.”

And we Christians cannot vote for the party that states that homosexuality is as acceptable as any other lifestyle. The Bible is very clear in Romans 1:24-27 that homosexuality comes from a debased mind.

If we Christians do not listen or watch the news, how can we know how to vote? And vote we must! In some states early voting is already taking place. All that is required is a voter ID—a driver’s license or Social Security card.

It is important that we, as Christians, vote. The future of our country depends on us. Please vote.

LAST LESSONS #196 — LAST LESSONS — OLD AGE

“Even to your old age I am he, and to gray hairs I will carry you. I have made, and I will bear; I will carry and will save.” Isaiah 46:4

As I approach my 95th birthday (July 20th) I know that there are not many reading this blog who are my age or older, therefore I thought that it might be helpful for those younger to hear a couple of observations I have about being old. Also, I have made some decisions that I hope I can keep in the time God has left for me before he calls me home. Here they are:

  • Be realistic about my life expectancy and be prepared to be called home to heaven at any moment.
  • Trust and obey everything God tells me.
  • Take one day at a time and not fret over what I can no longer do.
  • Do not complain! Be grateful and say “thank you.”
  • Take every opportunity God gives me to speak to others about Jesus.
  • Pray for my family—children, grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.
  • Help any of my family members with whatever they ask for.
  • Take joy in envisioning ways to help family and Rafiki.
  • Pray for strength to finish the tasks that I know God has given me.
  • Read! The Bible first and then commentaries. Then other books that are edifying and enjoyable.
  • Give away all my money to the places that will glorify God most.

These are my decisions. Are you making some decisions for yourself as you grow old?

LAST LESSONS #195 — LAST LESSONS — CHURCH SCHOOLS

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.” Psalm 32:8

I am sorry I missed last week but I am still not home from the hospital. I am fine so don’t worry. Mostly, I want to recommend a fascinating book that Karen Elliott sent me the link to.

As you know, Rafiki wants people to know God and we do that by producing the best Bible study in the world—the Rafiki Bible Study—the RBS. Rafiki’s other goal is to help people raise their standard of living, and we do that particularly through Christian education. God has enabled us to produce the best Christian Classical Curriculum in the world and so we want it to be used as much as possible.

The book I will recommend is all about Christian education in the USA and we surely need that! But the principles are the same whether we are living in the USA or in Africa. I hope you will take the time to read the ebook or get a hard copy and share it with your church.

Here is the link: https://www.namb.net/resource/education-reformation/

Thank you for those of you who have been praying for me, but just keep praying for more Christian schools wherever God wants them. He is faithful to answer prayers.
