“Even to your old age I am he, and to gray hairs I will carry you. I have made, and I will bear; I will carry and will save.” Isaiah 46:4
As I approach my 95th birthday (July 20th) I know that there are not many reading this blog who are my age or older, therefore I thought that it might be helpful for those younger to hear a couple of observations I have about being old. Also, I have made some decisions that I hope I can keep in the time God has left for me before he calls me home. Here they are:
- Be realistic about my life expectancy and be prepared to be called home to heaven at any moment.
- Trust and obey everything God tells me.
- Take one day at a time and not fret over what I can no longer do.
- Do not complain! Be grateful and say “thank you.”
- Take every opportunity God gives me to speak to others about Jesus.
- Pray for my family—children, grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.
- Help any of my family members with whatever they ask for.
- Take joy in envisioning ways to help family and Rafiki.
- Pray for strength to finish the tasks that I know God has given me.
- Read! The Bible first and then commentaries. Then other books that are edifying and enjoyable.
- Give away all my money to the places that will glorify God most.
These are my decisions. Are you making some decisions for yourself as you grow old?
