LAST LESSONS #203 — LAST LESSONS — BSF

“Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity! It is like the precious oil on the head, running down on the beard, on the beard of Aaron, running down on the collar of his robes!” Psalm 133:1-2

I’m not sure about precious oil running down on beards, but I am sure that it is good and pleasant when there is unity among Christians.

This week, I want to tell you about two organizations with which I am quite familiar. I am familiar with them because there was a time when I was the Executive Director of them both. They were definitely unified! I am now retired from each of them, but I still do everything I can to promote both of them.

For Rafiki Foundation, I am still on its board as well as the board of the Rafiki Classical Academy. I also do as much as I can to encourage Rafiki’s present Executive Director, Karen Elliott, who is an amazing leader.

For BSF, I do what I can to encourage its Executive Director, Hollie Roberts, who is also an amazing leader. The two leaders do some things together. I am pleased to say that Hollie will be going to Africa with Karen soon and I am looking forward to Hollie’s next trip to visit me in Florida.

God has blessed BSF. It is amazing how it has grown to be the largest in-depth regular Bible study in the world!

God has blessed Rafiki too, to the point where we can provide some opportunities for BSF members, especially during their 10-week summer break. For example:

  • Rafiki offers the Rafiki Bible Study material that is advanced Bible study (written by notable theologians) on any book of the Bible.

  • Rafiki offers short-term mission trips to its ten countries in Africa.

  • For BSF teaching leaders, Rafiki provides the opportunity to teach homiletics in its teacher training colleges in Africa.

To find out about these opportunities, go to Rafiki’s website www.rafikifoundation.org

Here is something fun: This week I am reading the little book So Very Rosemary to the children in the Rafiki Classical Academy. It is a book written by one of my daughters about me in Africa, in BSF, and in Rafiki. It was BSF’s “Book of the Year” one year.

It is good and pleasant to observe how God has enabled BSF and Rafiki to dwell in unity for his glory.

  1. I have "So Very Rosemary, and it is delightful. I pull it from my bookshelf every now and then, and still find it delightful. It's a sweet reminder of my years in BSF and the times I volunteered at BSF Headquarters in San Antonio.

  2. Its very encouraging to hear about unity between BSF, and Rafiki each of which ive devoted over 20 yrs of life to. Ive noticed many differences, but these things are complimentary internationally in much the same way as different spiritual gifts are used in a local body, to be an effective whole.
